Case Study — Arena & Entertainment

Barclays Center Arena LED Conversion

Full LED conversion for Brooklyn’s premier 20,000+ seat arena — 45% energy reduction with smart event and non-event lighting modes.

Mixed Lighting, High Energy Costs, and Event Aesthetics

Barclays Center, home to the Brooklyn Nets and a world-class concert and event venue, was operating with a mix of legacy lighting technologies across concourses, luxury suites, back-of-house corridors, and utility areas. Energy consumption was high, and the lighting didn’t match the venue’s premium brand identity.

The venue required a lighting solution that could deliver architectural aesthetics in public-facing areas, energy efficiency in variable-occupancy zones, and the ability to switch between event and non-event lighting modes — all without disrupting the packed event calendar.

Architectural, Smart, and Linear — Working Together

Clear-Vu deployed a coordinated multi-product solution across the entire venue. Architectural LED fixtures handled the design-forward public areas, Occu-Smart brought smart occupancy sensing to back-of-house zones, and the LLS Linear Lighting System delivered seamless continuous runs throughout the main concourse.

  • Architectural LED decorative fixtures in luxury suites, VIP lounges, and main concourse for premium visual experience
  • Occu-Smart with Bluetooth adjustment in back-of-house corridors, storage areas, and utility rooms for demand-based dimming
  • LLS Linear Lighting System for continuous seamless runs along the main concourse perimeter
  • Smart controls enabling distinct event vs. non-event lighting scenes across all zones
  • Field-selectable 3000K–4000K CCT for warm hospitality feel in public spaces, 5000K task lighting in service areas
  • Installation phased around event calendar with no cancellations or closures
Event Mode

Full output across concourses, suites, and public areas. Warm 3000K architectural tone with accent highlights. Maximum guest experience.

Non-Event Mode

Reduced output with Occu-Smart occupancy sensing. Only active zones illuminated. Standby dimming in unoccupied areas. Maximum energy savings.

“The difference between game night and a maintenance day is dramatic — and automatic. The Bluetooth-controlled Occu-Smart fixtures in our back corridors are saving energy we didn’t even know we were wasting.”

— Operations Management, Barclays Center

Premium Experience, Lower Operating Costs

The LED conversion cut energy consumption 45% across all retrofitted areas. The dual-mode lighting system — event vs. non-event — means the venue only uses full power when 20,000+ fans are in the building. Back-of-house Occu-Smart zones run at standby levels when unoccupied, then ramp to full output on motion detection. Guest experience surveys post-retrofit noted improved visual quality in concourses and luxury suites, with the LLS continuous runs earning particular praise for their seamless architectural feel.
